We're at it again!

Intensive study and commitment is the only way I know to get better at something, so that's what we're doing here, building off our successful 30 Days of Harmony course. Each day, you'll get a new lesson, a new thing to work on, a new exercise and challenge, this time focused on improvisation and soloing.

The aim here is to help you develop fluency, character, and consistency with your playing. This course is meant to be ambitious. There is a lot of content: 32 video lessons, including 5 live group calls with me where we can chat and go even deeper and which will be recorded. We'll also have a Discord group so people can share as they go.

This course is primarily for pianists and spans a few levels of difficulty, from intermediate to advanced. And while I hope you'll keep up with it, there's no harm in skipping around or doing as much as you can and catching up later. It's ultimately what you want to do with it that matters.

Our hope is that if you follow along, you'll come out the other side a much stronger improviser, with me and your classmates helping you get there every step of the way. Hope to see you there.

30 Days, All Together

One day at a time, one lesson at a time.
Next session starts Jan 22.

Group calls will happen mostly on Thursdays at noon PST, with two exceptions noted below. These calls will be recorded and the recordings shared around afterward, in case you miss them.

Each day of the week will have a slightly different theme:

  • Thursdays are Lecture Day, with live Zoom group calls.
  • Fridays and Saturdays are Transcription Days, where we'll break down transcriptions of solos and how to learn from them.
  • Sundays are Rhythm Days.
  • Mondays are Demo Days, where I'll break down solos that influenced me in detail.
  • Tuesdays are Melody Days, where we'll talk though melodic ideas and integrate them into your solos.
  • Wednesdays are Tricks Days, where I'll show you cool licks and tricks I like to play.

FAQ

  • How does this work?

It's a 30 day course, where you will get a new lesson every day for 30 days. The next session starts Jan 22, with the first live group call on Zoom.

Once the course begins, there will be a new pre-recorded video lesson available every day for 6 days a week, and then a live group call on Zoom with me, which will be recorded, on the 7th. There will also be a Discord group where you can chat and learn from your classmates as you go.

  • Who is this course for?

Any intermediate or advanced pianist is welcome. You should definitely know the basics of scales and chords, as there will be some harmony talk. There will also be music notation to help read transcriptions of solos, so you probably want some notation reading knowledge, even if it's a little slow going.

Most importantly, it's for musicians who want to take their music seriously. I've always found I make the biggest strides in moments of deep commitment — and that's what I'm trying to help you do as well.

  • When does the next session start?

The first welcome call with Kiefer is Jan 22. Day 1 is Jan 23.

  • What if I can't make all the Zoom calls?

No big deal. They will be recorded and shared with everyone about a day after they happen.

  • What if I don't finish the course in 30 days?

No problem. Obviously, our hope is that you'll keep up and do a lesson a day, but life happens. It's not a problem at all if you end up taking it at your own pace.

  • Will I keep access to the lessons after the course is done?

    Yes.
